| Wicked Stepmother's World was born when I organised the first of the workshops that I run regularly here at Home Farm House in Lincolnshire and also in London. 2010 sees the introduction of Learning the Good Life as workshops further embrace my desire to live life in as a sustainable way as possible.
Workshops and courses have evolved slowly and are the meshing of my past experience in the food and training worlds and my life here in northern Lincolnshire.
I arrived in this part of the world when I fell in love and married abandoning my life in the antipodes, urban culture, café society and embraced a life of married bliss, instant family, the rural idyll of country life and the magic of European springs.
Learning the Good Life has been a natural progression for Wicked Stepmothers World. The programme of workshops and courses reflect my life, interests and country life. As the years pass my interest in living sustainably has become paramount and the programme is designed around the seasonal calendar. Within this framework the workshops and demonstrations include cooking and gardening, living sustainably, traditional rural crafts and skills, the arts and crafts and the family.
Before marriage I ran cafes in cosmopolitan Sydney, Australia. I arrived in the UK to set up Urban Espresso, a school to train professional baristas just before the great explosion of coffee culture in this country. It was an exciting time.
These days I am growing food rather than serving it. We are not self sufficient but I am keenly interested in the seasonality of what we produce and eat. We have become part of the Landshare initiative. With allotment waiting lists long Landshare offers growing space for those keen to grow food.
There are half day, full day and weekend workshops. Workshop numbers are limited to ensure lots of one to one. The day starts with delicious coffee and freshly baked treats and lunch is made with local produce.
Everyone leaves with a new skill or some new knowledge and hopefully refreshed and excited after a day of undivided attention to the subject. Tutors and course leaders are excellent. I hope that a day with Learning the Good Life will be fun and relaxing as well as instructive. |
